Outreach Letter 2010 Midwifing the Mystery of Transformation

Free Activist Witchcamp at the Wolf Creek Radical Faerie Sanctuary, July 11th - 17th, 2010

We who proudly call ourselves Activists and Witches invite you to join us for a week of Reclaiming-inspired, intentional and transformational magic and ritual as we journey between the worlds and become part of midwifing the mystery of transformation. Be ready! Although we gather for just a week, the invitation extends into the rest of your life.

We are pleased to announce that this year's camp will be returning to the Wolf Creek Radical Faerie Sanctuary in southern Oregon. Registration is required to attend this gathering; the Sanctuary will otherwise be closed during this time. When you register, you'll be asked to commit to several agreements to ensure the integrity of our container. Please register by July 4th. For Registration, teachers and path listings, and additional information, visit our website — http://freewitchcamp.org (Our Website will be updated by June 19th.)

This year's theme and Story
*Between the Worlds: Midwifing the Mystery of Transformation*

In the beginning, we were only particles in space — dancing, flying, colliding, merging into the complex molecules that became the first cells, the first threads of life. Then we were the sun-eaters floating in an endless sea, before rooting down into the earth and then becoming bone, scale, feather, and fur, moving of our own volition to play in a world of interconnection and interdependence. We were life, living as the descendants of the stars, with awareness of ourselves. We delighted in Place, dancing and living on our own blue jewel. And as our awareness grew, and our love, we continued to expand into the realms of imagination, creativity, and awe and respect for the cycles of being in form and Spirit. Even now, our ancestral memories arise to remind us, that all beings are connected through the lineage of being born and in turn, birthing new forms. We recognized the Gift of the cycle: that all beings live and die, grow and grieve, love and are loved. And that all of this is a great and profound Mystery.

This year at FAWC, we will work as Life, in service of life. We will work as consciously evolving life to consciously evolve life, living and dying. We work to love, create, transform, release and return. We will traverse the personal, collective, and planetary realms to cultivate our skills as shamans that travel between the worlds, midwives that understand how to work with all that is coming into birth and that which is dying, and healers and guardians of our community during the coming times of great change.

What is Free Activist Witchcamp?
FAWC is an evolving container that inspires and creates culture centered around weaving collective magic to aid and support each other and the earth. It is a week-long intensive that explores Reclaiming-inspired magic, ritual, and activism for all levels of experience. Here we learn and practice these skills by working with the elements of nature, music, movement, and art, group-process and shared decision-making, and tools to engender change in ourselves and the world around us. We are a consent-based, sex-positive camp, and encourage alternative expressions of identity, including gender. At FAWC, witches, faeries, activists, queers, and others join together to explore, create, and transform tradition, seeking to deepen relationship with ourselves, each other, and the earth. Throughout the week we will enrich our magical skills through daily paths, affinity groups, optional offerings, and community rituals.

Like other Witchcamps, FAWC is organized around Paths which meet every day. Each Path, led by two or more co-facilitators, will explore a different focus of magic in action. You will choose your Path (or it will choose you) once you arrive. You are encouraged to stay with the same Path throughout the week, which can lead to a deeper understanding of the Path's focus. Please come on time and stay the entire week. Affinity groups provide a smaller container to connect with and support others who share an affinity. Optional offerings is a time when anyone can share a skill or project. In the evenings, the entire camp gathers for ecstatic ritual and shared magic. During this time we feed the cauldron and step into our collective power.

Several things make FAWC unique in the realm of witchcamps. One is that we exist in the notaflof tradition (no one turned away for lack of funds). which makes our camp accessible to many who can't afford to spend $600 on a Reclaiming witchcamp - we ask for donations to cover our costs. We also make space for children, as well as responsibly stewarded pets (see our website regarding the Sanctuary's pet guidelines). FAWC draws inspiration from a variety of communities, including the Reclaiming tradition.

What is reclaiming? (from the principles of unity - http://www.reclaiming.org)
Reclaiming is a spiritual tradition founded on the belief that the earth is alive and all of life is sacred and interconnected, whose practice arises from a deep, spiritual commitment to the earth, to healing and to the linking of magic with political action. Our tradition honors the wild, and calls for service to the earth and the community. We value peace and practice non-violence. We welcome all genders, all races, all ages and sexual orientations and all those differences of life situation, background, and ability that increase our diversity. We work for all forms of justice: environmental, social, political, racial, gender and economic. We strive to create and sustain communities and cultures that embody our values, that can help to heal the wounds of the earth and her peoples, and that can sustain us and nurture future generations.

Let us midwife the transformation of our world together.

Bright blessings,
- FAWC Organizing Team 2010
